In 2017 the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC) in partnership with the City of Wanneroo applied for Federal Smart Cities Funding for a project entitled, Railsmart Planning Wanneroo.
PATREC exists to carry out collaborative, practical research to help guide Western Australian policy when it comes to transport and land-use planning.
PATREC partners participating in the RailSmart Planning Wanneroo project, comprise:
- The University of Western Australia
- Edith Cowan University
- The Department of Transport
- Main Roads Western Australia, and
- The Western Australian Planning Commission.
RailSmart Planning Wanneroo, will make it possible for PATREC to undertake entirely new levels of research.
Whilst PATREC’s analyses have brought about many helpful insights, there remain certain areas where traditional, existing research tools fall short. If however recent technology were applied to PATREC’s research, this could be a game changer. This high-tech shift in land-use planning is exactly what RailSmart Planning Wanneroo sets out to bring about.
The result aimed for is new and improved research outcomes.
This new research, when applied to planning, will create an economically sustainable future for City of Wanneroo residents.
